Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD)
Agnieszka Zaplatka joined the European Commission Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) of, in 2017. She works as a policy officer responsible for R&I policy in waterborne transport. Her responsibilities include waterborne programme development within Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Her work addresses a wide range of aspects related to maritime and inland waterway transport, including decarbonisation and greening of shipping, safety and connectivity.
Before joining DG RTD, she has been working for 3 years at the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), were she was responsible for promoting sustainable EU maritime transport, and in particular for coordination of the European Commission’s Expert Group called ‘European Sustainable Shipping Forum (ESSF)’.
Before joining the European Commission, Agnieszka worked for the national Maritime Administration in Poland, as a Head of Marine Environment Protection Unit in the Ministry of Maritime Economy. She was responsible for transposition and implementation of the EU and international regulations on maritime environment protection and pollution prevention, as well as cooperation with international and regional organisations like IMO and HELCOM.
